CUSTOM CABINETRY SPECIALISTS

INNER CITY CLASSIC WITH A MODERN MELD

A specialist in all types of custom cabinetry since 1968, H&H Cabinets Pty Ltd worked closely with both the owner of this classic Hughesdale Art Deco Cottage, and the designer, Design Habitat Pty Ltd, to achieve a stunning kitchen and bathroom renovation.

Looking for flexibility and attitude, the owner wanted to maintain the period feel of the original home, but wanted the extension to blend seamlessly and, at the same time, make a bold statement – from the moment you pass the aquarium in the bathroom wall, right up to the grand sliding doors of the entertainment centre.

Cleverly setting up the kitchen as the hub of the extension, and using abundant windows to the outside of the house, the first thing you notice is a magical sense of light and space, which gives the kitchen occupants a feeling of command over all the surrounding entertainment areas.

The kitchen features two types of benchtops: stainless steel and Corian, with integrated bowls. The contrasting materials form smooth, clean looking work surfaces. Duropal laminated doors, drawers and panels complete the core of the cabinetry fascias.

Appliances such as a coffee machine (complete with glass display cabinet), double dishwasher drawers and an externally motored, integrated fridge, freezer and rangehood make for a quiet, energy efficient space.

The pictured entertainment area features custom-made Duropal laminated audio/video cabinets with sliding timber veneer doors for the TV, whilst the long cabinet on the adjoining wall – also in Duropal laminate – was designed to hold the client’s vast LP record collection.

One of the more stunning achievements is that of the laminated bulkhead and return that runs above the kitchen island bench and up to the mezzanine master bedroom. At nearly nine metres in overall length, it effortlessly draws you from one area to the next.
