Some homes ask not for transformation, but for thoughtful refinement, and this project was one of them. The team was tasked with reimagining a kitchen with a footprint that couldn’t be changed, but with a function and feel that were ready for evolution. With storage being at complete capacity, the project became about working smarter within the space.

Key changes began with flow. Relocating the fridge from a cramped corner and repositioning the oven opened up circulation and improved access. Given the family’s love of cooking and entertaining, the layout was recalibrated: cooking tools stayed near the action, while serving pieces moved outward to reduce crowding.

The cooking surface was modernised with a flush-mounted induction cooktop paired with a gas wok burner, all set into durable, low-maintenance Dekton. Custom spice drawers, deep storage for oversized chopping boards and pull-out pantry shelving added efficiency with a personal touch. Warm LED lighting provides brightness for prep and ambiance for shared meals.

Materials were chosen for more than just performance – they carried a sense of meaning and continuity. Timber accents were thoughtfully integrated to honour the home’s original warmth and to reflect the homeowner’s appreciation for woodworking. Painted cabinetry in a muted palette provided a calm, contemporary base, while reeded glass panels introduced a layer of softness and texture, allowing light to play on the surface. Brass handles with refined knurled detailing offered both tactile appeal and understated luxury. The butler’s pantry, while kept within its original footprint, was significantly improved in functionality. Strategic updates like added shelving, drawer inserts, and a dedicated microwave niche transformed it into an efficient, easy-to-navigate zone that now supports the family’s daily routines with ease and clarity.

This project is not only a masterclass in palette and material, but it is deeply attuned to its users. Every detail emerged from listening to how the family cooks, gathers and lives. The result is a space that feels cohesive, capable and comfortably theirs
