Flush For The Furture

With innovation at its core, Caroma is dedicated to delivering superior water solutions to the public. Today the company addresses a new era in sustainable building management with the launch of Smart Command, an intelligent bathroom management system that harnesses the Internet of Things (IoT) to enable real-time remote monitoring, management and control of water use in commercial bathrooms.

“While advancements in smart technology have transformed our ability to monitor and manage other critical resources and functions in digital buildings, such as power, lighting and ventilation, similar opportunities in commercial water management have yet to be unlocked. That is, until now,” says Smart Command inventor Dr Stephen Cummings.

Smart Command empowers building owners to monitor and control water use and thereby make smarter decisions to conserve water and reduce maintenance costs, while improving hygiene, wellbeing and increasing facility uptime. “At work, leisure, or on the go, today’s tenant demands high-end built environments that deliver seamless experiences with sustainability credentials to match,” says Dr Cummings.

Data collected continuously through Caroma Smart Command can be accessed locally from a mobile app or integrated into existing building management systems and cloud platforms to enable remote monitoring, faster fault diagnosis and accurate cleaning deployment.

“By 2050, our water demands will have increased by 55 per cent,” says Dr Cummings. “Yet, as inhabitants of one of the driest continents on earth, we need to invest in ways to conserve our most critical resource.” Preliminary insights into the opportunity presented by this technology have shown that by using water-efficient products Australians could save more than $2 billion by 2030; an average saving of $175 per household each year.

In the years ahead, Caroma plans to explore the possibilities for adapting the Smart Command system for use in the home, so homeowners too can enjoy greater control of their household water consumption.

With more than 75 years’ experience in providing sustainable water solutions, Caroma continues to bring Australians the latest in water management to ensure that when you invest in its products and technologies, you are investing in the future of our planet.
