This kitchen was designed by Kitset Kitchens in conjunction with the homeowner. The kitchen works extremely well – it has plenty of light and abundant bench space for food preparation, cooking and serving, and the design is also accessible to the clients’ children.

There is great storage in the kitchen, and the soft-close mechanisms in the drawers are safe for children to use as there is no worry of hands getting slammed when the drawers shut. The new kitchen and family space was part of a renovation of this pretty inner-city weatherboard cottage.

The back veranda has been transformed into a light, bright area with a soaring ceiling and direct access to the back garden and the kitchen is a no-fuss functional room with great views of the garden and family room. It was important to the clients that the kitchen complemented the renovation of the home, and functionality was a key priority in the design of the kitchen. They wanted the kitchen to utilise modern materials but not have a negative impact on the older style of the home.

It was also vital that materials used were easy to clean and would stand the test of time. The combination of new design and old materials has worked well, right down to the ‘old’ floorboards, which were brushed and drawn with dark stain flushed with natural timber, resulting in a clever, durable and effective finish.

The splashback material is a grey/green new aluminium product that creates a relaxed, soft feel alongside the stone benchtop and high gloss doors. Kitset Kitchens’ clients were thrilled with their new kitchen, and pleased they opted for a CaesarStone benchtop, undermount sink and fluted draining grooves, saying that although these were slightly more expensive options, they were well worth it.

The owners were very hands-on with the assembly and installation of the kitchen, which gave them the opportunity to take advantage of the savings with Kitset Ktichens.
