De Wacht Cabinets & Design Project 4

Craig de Wacht of de Wacht Cabinets & Design created this stunning coastal kitchen for a retired couple, maximising storage and functionality, and modernising its features to enhance the food preparation and entertaining areas without disturbing the home’s original footprint. The result is a bold yet understated design rich with navy and white.

The first port of call was to open up the U-shaped kitchen and update it to a more ergonomic L-shaped layout. A neutral white colour scheme appears in the lower shaker-style cabinetry, seamlessly blending into the rest of the home’s style, while the deep navy of the overhead cabinetry gives the kitchen that ‘wow’ factor. A curved island bench, featuring a continuation of the navy and a Barlume Granite benchtop, makes a statement at the centre of the L-shape. The curves are not only for aesthetics, but also for safety and practicality, preventing incidents and injuries from grandchildren playing and running around.

A wealth of functional inclusions take this kitchen to the next level, from the LeMans corner unit, to the Kessembomer pullout pantry, Scala soft-close drawers and double ASKO Pyroletic ovens – proving that there’s no need to compromise on style for function, or vice versa

The original laundry has been transformed into a fully functional walk-in pantry, housing an icemaker fridge, additional dishwasher, extra storage and bench space. This room also serves as a laundry, complete with a trough, washing machine and dryer. By creating this walk-in pantry off of the kitchen, the homeowners were able to keep their large fridge plus they gained an integrated fridge for daily use in the main kitchen area.
