Let’s Talk Kitchens & Interiors Project 9

Let’s Talk Kitchens & Interiors designed and executed all of the joinery throughout this new five-bedroom luxury holiday home integrated into an old stone cottage, which has also been given a fresh update to serve as a fully self-contained guest wing. The resulting design effortlessly reflects the Scandinavian farmhouse style. The homeowners asked for a relaxing escape from everyday life, and this brief was well and truly achieved.

What makes this whole project stand out from the crowd is its use of natural elements, which give this holiday home a real warmth and tactility. The homeowners wanted something stylistically Scandinavian, but with a nod to the past and a link to the natural world through its use of materials and colour palette, which reflect its stunning Mornington Peninsula surrounds.

The kitchen demonstrates this use of natural materials beautifully, from the stunning Signorino ‘Pietra Natuca’ limestone island bench, countertops and rangehood, to the Farmers Doors solid and veneered stained oak cabinetry. Discreet inbuilt cabinet handles ensure the design isn’t overcomplicated, keeping it neat and modern, but with that distinct Northern European feel. The open shelves extending from the island bench are a clever way to provide additional storage without closing off the whole kitchen.

The kitchen is well-equipped with integrated sub-zero fridges and an impressive Lacanche stove. Behind the tiled kitchen wall, a butler’s pantry is easily accessible, offering additional bench space, cabinetry, open shelving and a floor-to-ceiling wine rack, all in similar finishes to the kitchen for a cohesive aesthetic.

Beyond the magnificent kitchen are the dining and living areas. A contemporary feature light stems from the timber-lined ceiling over the dining table, a touch of coolness to cut through the warm tones. The large floor-to-ceiling windows invite some of that natural surrounding scenery in – making this inviting space feel light and open.

The stone floors allow for a seamless connection between the internal living space and the alfresco kitchen. Here, the double barbecue, woodfired pizza oven, sink and minifridge create a highly functional outdoor cooking zone, fitting with the homeowners’ dream to entertain family and friends. Let’s Talk Kitchens & Interiors thought of everything, even creating a small firewood hutch to avoid clutter.

Ever consistent, the bathrooms feature the same rich solid and veneered oak cabinetry as the kitchen, complemented by the grey tones in the matching limestone benchtop and splashback, which neatly drops to form the sink. All of the vanities contain roll-out drawers for ease of use and access.

The laundry is extremely spacious, with room for three appliances, perfect for accommodating the large number of guests the house is capable of holding. Ample cabinetry and bench space provide plenty of storage options, while the LED strip lighting illuminates the workspace.

This home is very functional with large spaces that are easy to navigate, along with lots of built-in cabinetry throughout, from the bookshelves and linen cupboards in the hallways, to the custom wardrobes in all six bedrooms. The master bedroom even contains a walk-in-robe with a combination of white cupboards and a continuation of the veneered timber, showcasing the same warmth that’s evident in every corner of this breathtaking home.
