Smith & Smith Kitchens Project 24
Calming and inviting, this unique kitchen was designed by Lynette Yannakakis for Smith & Smith Kitchens. Featuring a harmonious blend of timber features and beautiful blue cabinets, this is a kitchen that truly inspires.
The brief given to Smith & Smith Kitchens was to enlarge the space and promote a communal-friendly environment. The previous kitchen involved a U-shape design that under-utilised the area and offered minimal colour. Smith & Smith Kitchens transformed the space by maximising the existing footprint.
An integrated dining table was also paramount in the redesign, so Smith & Smith Kitchens constructed a large island bench that transitions into a fixed dining table – encouraging simultaneous cooking and dining. The team fitted high cabinets and additional drawers, replacing original cupboards so the space could be optimised. The combined island bench and dining area serves as a central hub where food preparation, cooking and entertaining can take place without creating too much foot traffic. This warm, welcoming area is the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine with friends.
Dulux paint in ‘Bay’s Water’ gives this kitchen a wondrous flair. The blue kickboards perfectly match the cabinetry, creating a serene, cohesive appearance. For added warmth, the floor was constructed from engineered timber by the client, blending seamlessly with the blackwood dining table and timber shelves. The low iron glass splashback introduces a smart, modern element to the design, while the crisp white Dulux ‘Lexicon’ paint freshens the space.
The kitchen is fitted with state-of-the-art appliances that makes cooking and entertaining not only simple, but stylish! The dual mounted oven is a chef’s dream, while the Bora Pro induction cooktop and a teppanyaki top with integrated downdraft extraction streamlines the entire cooking process. Blum Antaro soft-close draws offer a polished appearance and safer option for a family with young children.
Smith & Smith Kitchens experienced some difficulties with the seven doors that accessed the kitchen. As none of the doors could be removed, it was a huge challenge for the team. Since this was once the upstairs living area, options were limited, and services and construction had to be meticulously planned to avoid disruption. The highly experienced and diligent team at Smith & Smith Kitchens worked around this challenge, resulting in this beautiful and functional space, replete with warm wooden accents and fresh tones of blue and white.
