Smith & Smith Kitchens Project 26

For this renovation project, the team at Smith & Smith Kitchens created a classically traditional kitchen and refrained from using unnecessary details. The result; a stunning, pared-back Hamptons-style kitchen.

Designed by Laurie Calleja, this kitchen has considerable light with an array of white tones that offer a crisp, fresh feel. The renovation capitalised on the use of natural light, culminating in a striking space that captures the eye from the point of entry. The added light also ensures safer and easier food preparation for the homeowners.

Bright and inviting, the Caesarstone ‘Calacatta Nuvo’ island bench is the hero of the space, promoting positive energy in the main area and creating a central hub for family and friends to gather around. The size of this island bench was increased to accommodate additional seating and improve bench space, while extra drawers and overhead cabinets were added to the nifty butler’s pantry for further storage. The combined butler’s pantry and laundry was built per the owner’s request, who were extremely happy with the added functionality and storage space it affords.

The gorgeous splashback was constructed with subway tiles, while the kickboards, shaker style doors and panels were painted with Dulux’s ‘Antique White USA’ to match the cabinetry, and the plinths with the island bench. Castella Kennedy knobs and cup pulls in ‘Brushed Nickel’ are a fabulous contrast to the white cabinetry, and contribute to the clean, sleek appeal of the design.

As this kitchen unites several rooms in a previously dark corridor, Smith & Smith Kitchens was tasked with the initial challenge of setting the kitchen area between load bearing walls. Several structural walls could not be removed and replaced with steel beams, as these factors would have greatly affected the length and cost of the renovation. Unifying the kitchen was no problem for the team at Smith & Smith Kitchens, who were able to masterfully solve any issues that arose. The team delivered a seemingly effortless design that negated any obstacles; the beautiful finished product was simply ‘meant to be’.
