Established by Anthony and Cheryl Damigella as a part-time venture in 2006, Swap a Top has grown and thrived, and has traded as a full-time business for more than two years. Swap a Top specialises in benchtop replacements – primarily laminate, granite and reconstituted stone – but other types of benchtops are no problem for the team.

Swap a Top also completes a range of residential cabinetry work, including kitchen, bathroom and laundry fit-outs. This kitchen was built from scratch by Swap a Top. The owners sought a practical kitchen with a simple design, plenty of storage, premium finishes and a strong visual impact.

Designed by the client, a design manager, the kitchen has a large island bench with double-sided cabinets, walnut doors and reconstituted stone benchtops. The imposing 3m x 1.2m island bench is a true centrepiece of the kitchen. Brushed aluminium kickboards, a glass splashback and timber flooring provide a diversity of materials in the room, giving the space visual interest.

To ensure the kitchen has the ‘wow’ factor, wraparound stone was used, and handle-less doors and drawers were installed. A ‘floating appearance’ was also a key part of the smart, contemporary design. The inclusion of the wraparound stone and finger pull detailing on doors was tricky but Swap a Top has successfully integrated this part of the brief to achieve the clients’ requests.

This project is an example of a kitchen that has been given a facelift by Swap a Top. The clients wanted their revamped kitchen to keep with the style of their existing home, meaning detailed provincial features were required. This was achieved with corbels, 54mm thick panels, skirtings, capping and glass doors.

Another priority for the clients was functionality – their updated kitchen had to be easy to clean, with practical handles and a great layout. Swap a Top designed the new look kitchen to accommodate all the clients’ requests, overcoming challenges that were presented by the remaining existing features and the thick panels to create the stunning kitchen pictured here.
