Mint Kitchen Group Project 13

For this project, the client approached Mint Kitchen Group for a low-maintenance kitchen with durable finishes, impressive lighting options and plenty of storage space.

Mint Kitchen Group opened up the original U-shaped kitchen with a new galley-style layout, which welcomes light into the space and makes it more inviting. Space-saving storage solutions were also installed, such as the ceiling-high overhead cabinetry, which features a Blum AVENTOS lift-up system and full-depth top shelves for storing bulk items.

A warm timber grain finish was selected for the overhead cabinetry to further encourage a light and spacious aesthetic. The lower cabinetry features a contrasting two-pack satin finish, modern finger-pull handles and a Blum TANDEMBOX antaro soft-close function.

The clients’ existing pendant lights were incorporated into the new design, while energy-efficient LED lighting illuminates the cooking zone and overhead cabinetry interiors. LED strip lighting was also installed around the perimeter of the breakfast bar, which features a stain- and scratch-resistant Dekton 12mm benchtop in ‘Keranium’.

The breakfast bar tapers outward on an angle to provide plenty of space for food preparation and to allow the homeowners to sit and work at the bench with a laptop. The homeowners were thrilled with this design solution, as they were worried a wide bench would be impossible with such limited space.

Once the kitchen was completed, the client requested that the Dekton benchtop material be used for the splashback, which was extended to the ceiling to create a beautiful feature wall.

To enhance the functionality of the space, Mint Kitchen Group installed a Fisher & Paykel French-door fridge, along with a state-of-the-art ASKO oven, steam oven and dishwasher. The cooking zone features a Miele gas hotplate and undermount rangehood from Sirius, while the clean-up area includes a Blanco sink and Zip HydroTap that supplies instant boiling, chilled and sparkling water.

Mint Kitchen Group was established by Frank Iaria, Albert Zarb, and Lindsay Williams, each of whom has in excess of 25 years’ industry experience. The featured kitchen won Victorian Renovated Kitchen up to $50,000 at the 2016 Housing Industry Association (HIA) awards, and Best Small Kitchen Design in the Victoria category at the 2016 Kitchen and Bathroom Designers Institute (KBDi) Designer Awards.
