Mint Kitchen Group Project 4

Homeowners in Vermont engaged Lindsay Williams of Mint Kitchen Group to create a stylish and contemporary kitchen to complement their new home. Williams was able to transform the existing timber and granite kitchen, which was dull and dated, offered limited work space and inadequate storage, into the bright and exciting kitchen it is today.

The new kitchen has an extended footprint, with the relocation of the meals area to the adjoining living room. The kitchen cabinetry is finished in white gloss two-pack polyurethane, while the pantry and open shelf units are finished in a complementary ‘Smoke Melange’ velour laminate by Formica. The reconstituted quartz benchtop and kitchen island by essastone in ‘New Basmati’ tie these two colours together, while the bright red splashback provides an exciting counterpoint in an otherwise muted colour palette.

Design features include a large three-door pantry, appliance cupboard with bi-fold doors, and a mini-bar positioned close to the adjoining lounge and dining areas. The mini-bar features wine racking fitted into the lower cupboards and polished chrome wine glass racking above. The glass display shelf provides a perfect space to display the clients’ crystal figurines, while an internal downlight was fitted in the top of the open cupboard for maximum effect.

The open shelf units beside the rangehood and between the windows make good use of otherwise wasted space through the simple addition of task lighting, as well as colourful cookbooks and bakeware. New windows were installed to create symmetry, allowing for a continuous bench to be installed along the back wall. The stone splashbacks under the windowsills add a spacious and streamlined feel to the kitchen.

To ensure the kitchen is highly functional, the base cupboards next to the oven were fitted with oil, sauce and spice drawers for easy access during cooking. The hotplate features two double-ring wok burners and four other burners to facilitate the young family’s taste for Asian cooking. A second wall oven built into the appliance cabinet on the other side of the room allows for simultaneous cooking, such as roasting and baking.

The result is another truly stunning kitchen by the Mint Kitchen Group that reflects the contemporary and individual style of the clients, while providing them with functionality and durability for years to come.
