Mint Kitchen Group Project 3

Designed by Lindsay Williams from Mint Kitchen Group, this project won Best Small Kitchen Design Victoria/Tasmania at the 2011 Kitchen and Bathroom Design Institute (KBDi) Awards. Functional and utterly striking, the kitchen won Williams a third award from the KBDi in three years, and was the 61st award for the company in the last seven years.

The clients engaged Williams to create a contemporary, stylish kitchen that would blend with and complement their home’s architectural elements. Because the house has a cathedral ceiling and a central staircase, it was important that the kitchen design looked fantastic from the stairwell view and provided a focal point for the living areas. Although structural difficulties were encountered when it came time to implement the design, these were overcome and have resulted in a kitchen the clients can be truly proud of.

The body of the kitchen is finished in warm, light-grey Dulux two-pack paint in ‘Dieskau’ and is complemented by reconstituted stone quartz benchtops in ‘New Basmati’, which feature a pearly-shell fleck. Brushed aluminium framed lift-up doors with frosted glass inserts provide a sleek, smooth look, while the bright red toughened glass splashback, painted in Dulux ‘Redbox’, brings a bold splash of colour to the otherwise muted colour palette.

The kitchen has been designed to cater to the needs of the clients and their young family. There is room for their children to do homework while dinner is being cooked and served, and there is a space at the front of the breakfast bar for the clients to store their considerable wine collection. With a spacious pantry, appliance cupboard and abundant storage, the kitchen is as practical as it is visually appealing. Barstools and the easy-access wine cupboards ensure the space isn’t just perfect for family time; it’s also ideal for entertaining.

Appliances by Fisher & Paykel were installed in the room, and a carefully thought-out product selection – from the fine details to the major features – ensures the kitchen will no doubt continue to impress for years to come.

With more than 100 years of kitchen design experience, Mint Kitchen Group has five uniquely appointed showrooms in Moonee Ponds, Richmond, Burnley, Carnegie and Burwood.
